The real difference

Gold-rate apps change prices. A jewelry POS runs the trade.

Shopify’s answer to gold pricing is an app from its store. Apps such as GPE Live Gold Price Editor or GoldPricer take the spot rate and recalculate product prices from weight and purity, and some sync those prices to Shopify POS. For a shop that mainly needs prices to follow the rate, that can work.

A jewelry counter needs more than a repriced tag. In Smart Jewelry POS the salesperson can negotiate wastage and making on the bill, the customer ledger keeps gold in grams, vendor ledgers post themselves from deliveries with Labour/Kaat terms, and old gold is appraised and traded in against the sale. None of that is documented as built into Shopify POS.

Is Shopify POS good for jewelry stores?

Shopify POS is a strong choice when online sales lead and most items have a fixed price. Gold priced by weight needs a third-party rate app, and vendor ledgers, Labour/Kaat terms and old gold buying are not documented as built-in features.

Can Shopify POS price gold by weight?

Not on its own. Apps such as GPE Live Gold Price Editor or GoldPricer reprice products from the spot rate using weight and purity. Smart Jewelry POS does this natively, including wastage, making and stones, and lets the salesperson negotiate them on the bill.

Does Shopify Payments work in every country?

No. Shopify Payments is offered only in some countries; elsewhere shops need a third-party gateway. Smart Jewelry POS records card, bank and cheque payments taken on your own bank’s terminal, in any country.

Can I keep my Shopify online store and use Smart Jewelry POS in the shop?

You can run both, but they keep separate stock. Smart Jewelry POS has a public catalog page to share live stock, not a full online store with checkout.
