Old gold buying, exchange and raw metal stock

Customers bring old jewellery in every day, to sell or to exchange. Smart Jewelry POS appraises it with your wastage and labour/kaat, pays or credits the customer, and follows the gold through melting into your raw metal stock.

Old gold buying software turns a used piece into a fair, recorded price. Smart Jewelry POS subtracts stones from the weighed article, deducts your wastage and labour/kaat to find its pure gold, prices that at your 24K buy rate, credits the customer, and tracks the gold until it is melted into raw stock.

Appraisal

The same deductions you make on paper

Each article is weighed, its stones and other non-metal weight removed, then two deductions are applied, each optional:

  • Wastage for the metal you’ll lose when it is melted: ratti per tola, percent, or flat grams.
  • Labour/Kaat for your purity assessment: ratti, percent less, or percent by division.

The declared karat is recorded but your labour/kaat decides the price, because a tester’s reading matters more than a stamp. The buy rate starts at today’s 24K buy rate and can be changed before you finalize.

Paying the customer

Cash, bank, gold or a new piece

The purchase credits the customer’s account. How they take that credit is up to them.

Cash from the till

Pay out from the open cash register. Short on cash? Move money in from the safe first.

Bank transfer

Pay from one of your bank accounts, recorded on that account’s ledger.

Gold in kind

Hand over pure gold instead, valued at the same buy rate.

Trade-in on a sale

Start the purchase from an invoice. The credit and the sale share one ledger, so the customer pays only the difference.

Every purchase needs a named customer. Above the threshold you set, the seller’s CNIC must be recorded before it can be finalized. Mistakes are voided and re-entered, never edited.

Melting

Check your labour/kaat against the furnace

Bought pieces wait as collected stock. When you have enough, put them in a melt batch for one metal. The batch expects the pure weight your appraisals added up to. When the gold comes back, enter the actual pure weight and see the gain or loss.

Over time that variance tells you whether your labour/kaat is set right, or whether something is going missing on the way to the refiner.

Raw metal stock

Every loose gram, on record

Raw metal is kept per store in pure grams, per metal. Melted old gold goes in, metal bought from suppliers goes in, gold customers deposit goes in, and gold issued to vendors for job work goes out until it comes back as pieces or leftover metal.

Every movement is a permanent line with its date, weight, who recorded it and where it came from. Corrections are new lines, never edits.

  • Pure grams per metal, per store
  • In: melted old gold, supplier purchases, customer deposits
  • Out: gold issued to vendors for job work
  • Movement history with the source of every line

Questions

Old gold buying FAQ

How does the software value old gold?

Weigh the article, subtract stones and other non-metal weight, then deduct wastage (ratti per tola, percent or grams) and labour/kaat (ratti or percent) to reach the pure weight. That pure weight is multiplied by your 24K buy rate, which the appraiser can adjust before finalizing.

Can a customer trade old gold in against a new piece?

Yes. Start the old gold purchase from the invoice and its value is credited to the same customer account as the sale, so the customer pays only the difference.

How do I pay the customer?

In cash from the till, by bank transfer, or in gold. Any part you don’t pay out stays as credit on the customer’s ledger for their next purchase.

Is CNIC required when buying old gold?

You set a threshold. Above it, the seller’s CNIC must be recorded before the purchase can be finalized. Every purchase also needs a named customer, not walk-in.

What happens to the gold after I buy it?

The pieces wait as collected stock. Send a batch for melting, record the actual pure weight that came back, and see the gain or loss against your appraisals. The melted gold goes into your raw metal stock.
