Cash register, bank and expenses, closed every day

Month end shouldn’t take days. Smart Jewelry POS counts the till open and closed every day, sends card and bank money to the right account, records every expense with its receipt, and shows the profit left after it all.

Till session · todayOpen
Opening float$200
+ Cash payments$4,750
− Old gold paid out$1,275
− Cash expenses$22
− Dropped to bank$3,400
Expected in drawer$253

A jewellery shop cash register in Smart Jewelry POS is a daily till session: opened with a counted float, moved by every cash payment, payout, expense and bank drop, and closed with a counted balance so any shortfall shows the same day. Bank accounts and expenses sit alongside it, feeding the Profit & Loss report.

A day at the till

Five steps, no surprises at closing

  1. Open

Count the float and open the session.

  2. Trade

Cash sales, payments and old gold payouts move the expected balance.

  3. Spend

Cash expenses come out of the till; bank expenses don’t touch it.

  4. Drop

Send surplus cash to the bank, or bring cash in from the safe.

  5. Close

Count the drawer. Any variance is recorded with a reason.

Expenses

Every expense, with its receipt

Record each expense with a category, payee, amount and where it was paid from: the till or a named bank account. Attach a photo of the receipt and link it to a supplier when it’s a supplier payment, so the Expenses report can split spending by category, supplier, cash or bank and store.

  • Categories you define
  • Paid from the till or a bank account
  • Receipt image attached
  • Linked to a supplier where it applies

Bank accounts

Card and bank money, accounted for

Keep a list of your bank accounts. Card, transfer and cheque payments are attributed to one, cash drops land in one, and bank-paid expenses leave from one. The Bank Account Ledger report shows the flow through each account for any period.

The bottom line

True profit, after expenses

The Profit & Loss report counts wastage charged, profit on priced stones and set-cost articles, then subtracts expenses by category. No guesswork about metal margin.

Daily Cash Sheet

The day by tender, with each till session’s float, movements and variance.

Cash Register Sessions

Every session over a period, filtered to those with a variance.

Expenses & Bank Ledger

Spending by category and source, and the flow through each bank account.

Questions

Cash, bank & expenses FAQ

How does the cash register work?

Open the till each day with a counted float. Cash payments, cash expenses, cash paid out for old gold and drops to the bank all move the expected balance. At closing, count the drawer and the difference from expected is recorded with a reason.

Can I record expenses paid from the bank?

Yes. Every expense has a category, a payee and a source: the till or a specific bank account. You can attach the receipt and link the expense to a supplier.

What if I need more cash in the drawer during the day?

Record a cash in from the safe. It raises the till balance, for example before paying a large old gold purchase.

Does card and bank money go to the right account?

Non-cash payments are attributed to one of your bank accounts, and the Bank Account Ledger report shows payments, cash drops and expenses for each account.

Is the cash register optional?

Yes. It is switched on in settings. Without it, cash payments are still recorded and the Daily Cash Sheet still adds up the day.
